Artist U Aye Myint's Review
I was born in 1930 and Sayar U San Hlaing in 1924, so he was years older than me. He has 8 children and I have 5 children. Sayar was greatly attached to his sons, daughters, and grandchildren.
On the other hand, he was very serious in his line of trade.
In addition, he is used to sending his grandchildren to school and fetching them back as well. He sent his designs and paintings to the respective publishing and periodical houses in person.
In fact, I have many things to praise, about him. One particular thing is that he is able to create and depict his paintings in detail in his messy small room.
I would like to say that his life has two parts: one is the life of a soldier and another one is the artist’s life.
I think that he performed his duties to the country, so he respects his duties and his very open talking resembles with soldier’s life and his love to stay together with his son, daughters, and grandchildren and his tolerance resembles with artist’s life.
However he may be disturbed by his grandchildren and some family members, however, he may be entangled with things, voices, and noises, he can finish his works of designs illustrations, and creations which were entrusted by his customers, clients, and collections.
While Sayar U San Hlaing studied, he has many art masters including the not famous artists and also the famous great artist U Ngwe Gaing. He has experience as a film poster artist before illustrator. Among his illustrations, he gave priority to the propagation of religious and cultural illustrations. Therefore, it can be said that he is a missionary of religious artists who gets in the propagation of the Sasana.
I would like to write several critical works on the book” Zinattapakarthani Illustrations on Lord Buddha’s LIFE” which was written by the great and powerful “Kyeethelayhtat” monk was contributed to San Nyunt Oo Publishing House in 1994, was illustrated by San Nyunt Oo and U Hla Khin.
This was written on the fact in this book that San Nyunt Oo, U Hla Khin, and Artist U San Hlaing have worshiped and appreciated. In this book, the size 7”x10”,111 pages,8 colorful paintings, and 50 only one color paintings were included. They are big in size. If the papers and printings were in good. It would be in better quality. He created his works with might and mainly in colorful or colorless nature. Sayar illustrated deeply and created the dresses and designs of ancient clothes nature beautifully.
He drew the insignia of the dress and the curliced pattern on it completely. The proportion is well-balanced and the color concept is also convenient It draws the bright color as to the publisher’s likes but avoiding not to be flashy and odd.
Although he was influenced by the grand master U Ba Kyi, mostly in his own style. Should he get the reference pictures, his artwork will be much better. I think that he could draw his works because his moods were the best. His sight and his talent were the same.
