Since 1947, U San Hlaing had founded “San Hlaing Arts Studio” in 27th street, Yangon. He Started career drawing all kind of works from textile painting works to trade marks, designs, advertising’s etc.

The classical & legendary artist of Myanmar, U San Hlaing, organized a historic one-man exhibition at Jubilee Hall in Yangon during the revolutionary year of 1956.

The Burma Artist Union hosted a significant art exhibition at Sarpay Beikmhan in 1959. Among the notable items, U San Hlaing’s “Okkla San Daw Shin” painting is very famous.

Many authors and editors honored Sayargyi U San Hlaing with the articles, some people also honored with the paintings and sculpture at the “Dagaung Art Gallery” titled, “Ceremony of the creation of sculpture and paintings as honorable for Sayargyi U San Hlaing” on 31st March 2013.In this ceremony we have seen some paintings of Sayargyi U San Hlaing and the sculptor Ko Kyaw Kyaw Min created clay for the portrait sculpture and the artists Ko Shwe Myint, Ko Win Thaw and Khin Moe Pwint created the paintings as honorable.

An artist who was made the silicon sculpture of Sayargyi U San Hlaing’s portrait, was unique silicon sculpture in Myanmar, Aung Kyaw Tun. He is also famous, because his creation were the fact that while they looked exactly like human and very outstanding, however they were made of any medium such as: stone, bronze, silicon, etc.

He studied the art of silicon sculpture from the books and experimented by sculpting. Then he is more famous for the Silicon Sculpture of Bogyoke Aung San’s 100th anniversary. The silicones which were ordered from the foreign countries will be used as the medium.

He took the measurement of U San Hlaing’s face and the body and the photos from many kinds of view, before he sculptures. Although Ko Aung Kyaw Tun is a skillful artist, he took the detail measurement, because the human were not the same character and measurement.

He made the sketch of the Life-size on that measurement as the second step. Then he built the iron frame work for the bones and he stacked the clay on it and began the sculpture of the portrait. This was very important, because it was to make the face as the same of person. Besides he sculptured the red character and complete the measurement of the anatomy.

When he got the nude body, he showed it his customer Ko Myo Thaw and Sayargyi U San Hlaing and if they like, he made and put the silicon in it and sculptured. After finishing all steps he put the eyes and the hair.

He finished the whole sculpture and when he put the dress on it, appeared the silicon sculpture of Sayargyi U San Hlaing looked like the person.

A solo art exhibition by U San Hlaing, one of Myanmar’s oldest classical painters (2nd rank in the Independence Museum), was shown at the Strand Hotel in Yangon on 2015 November 17th and 18th. At this event, Burmese traditional paintings, a total of 117 paintings were on display, including paintings by General Aung San and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Sayar Gyi U San Hlaing’s exhibitions have gone beyond the confines of gallery spaces; they have become cultural milestones.
